Becoming My Portrait (2024) is a silent projection. This work marks a return to the apparatus while maintaining a dialogue with my cameraless photographs. The durational self-portrait was exposed in camera with 16mm black-and-white reversal film. After development, I used the same process as in the Mimesis series to progressively break down the emulsion of the film. As the granules of silver begin to unbind themselves from the deteriorating emulsion layer, my gaze at the viewer is unflinching. I remain present whether the viewer can see me or not.
